A Not So Good Land Investment
Our client, a large limited liability partnership that invests worldwide in agriculture, purchased several million dollars worth of farmland in Northern Costa Rica, only to have it invaded by "squatters" a short time later, claiming legal possession under an old law. Though the squatters stated they were landless Nicaraguans, our investigation revealed they were mostly local Costa Rican residents whose main interest was obtaining title and selling the land for a profit. Furthermore, we proved the local police and district attorney were negligent in carrying out their duties, even getting the former police chief to condemn the District Attorney's negligence. Status: Pending.
The Due Diligence That Died
We were hired to conduct a due diligence investigation on a businessman who was building tourist facilities in both Costa Rica and Nicaragua. During the course of our investigation we noticed someone with the same name reported murdered. We verified from the death certificate and local court filings that this was the subject. Our client's decided not to invest with the decedent's "family."
The Talking Belly Button With a Warrant
We were hired by a California bail bondsman to verify the location of a bail-jumper -- an Austrian wanted for assaulting a police officer in Riverside County. We found the subject drinking beer in a seaside resort and successfully took a videotape of him denying who he really was. Because it was so hot, our hidden camera lens slipped down the investigator’s shirt and most of the recording showed the accused's belly button moving up and down while he vehemently denied he was wanted. The bondsman recovered his bond as we proved the skip was out of U.S. jurisdiction. America's Funniest Home Videos rejected our submission.
